Chris “Shooter” and Janet McAninch have been passionate about fireworks for most of their lives.
Long before Shooters Fireworks became a store, Chris was already hooked on pyro. Before he could even drive, he was talking friends and family into taking him to Missouri so he could buy fireworks, learn about them, and share that excitement with others.
That passion eventually grew into professional training and certification. Today, Chris is a certified shooter, and the McAninches are involved in advanced pyrotechnics, including pyro-musicals — fireworks displays choreographed to music. It is a lot of work, but it represents one of the highest levels of the fireworks world.
Chris and Janet continue learning every year by attending events like the Pyrotechnics Guild International convention and Boomtown in Vinton, Iowa, where they stay up to date on the latest products, techniques, and safety practices.
Their pyro experience even extends beyond consumer fireworks. Chris has worked with controlled pyrotechnic effects for filming projects, including squibs, window effects, and fireball-style effects used in production settings.

We watch hundreds of fireworks videos and attend live product demos so we can hand-pick the best fireworks for our customers. Around here, we call it “getting under the product” — seeing it in person, hearing it, and knowing what it really does before we recommend it. We believe you should be able to see what you are buying before you take it home. That is why Shooters Fireworks uses product videos, QR codes, and big screens in the store so you can watch the fireworks for yourself and choose with confidence. The only thing missing is the smell of black powder.
